What Is the Right Answer?

Good afternoon, everyone.

Today, I’d like to talk about something simple, but also very difficult:

What is the right answer?

At first, I thought the answer was easy.

In a quiz, there is always a correct answer.
You study, you answer, and you win or lose.

But then I started thinking more deeply.

In a TV quiz show, the “right answer” is not only knowledge.
The TV station wants excitement.
The audience wants entertainment.
The host wants good timing.

So the “right answer” changes depending on the situation.

There is a character in the movie Quiz Show called “the wizard.”

He was not just smart.
He understood the structure behind the quiz.

He understood:

  • what the audience expected,
  • what the TV station wanted,
  • and how to make the show exciting.

Even when he already knew the answer,
he waited for the perfect moment to answer.

He stopped being just a quiz player.
He became someone who performed the “correct role.”

And that made me think about life.

I think many people spend their lives searching for the “right answer.”

  • How should I live?
  • What is success?
  • What kind of person should I become?

But maybe life is different from a quiz.

Maybe there is not only one correct answer.

The “right answer” changes depending on:

  • the people around us,
  • the situation,
  • and what we value.

Sometimes we try too hard to become the person others expect us to be.

A popular student tries to stay popular.
A worker tries to meet every expectation.
A person tries to become the “perfect version” of themselves.

But if we continue acting for others too long,
we may lose ourselves.

The wizard in the movie became tired of performing.

Not because he was weak,
but because he could no longer separate himself from the role people wanted him to play.

I also realized something important.

Maybe life is not about finding “the correct answer.”

Maybe life is about continuing to ask questions.

  • What matters to me?
  • What kind of life do I want?
  • What do I truly believe?

I think everyone has different answers.

And maybe that is okay.

So today, I do not want to tell you “the right answer.”

Instead, I want to leave you with one question:

Are you living your own answer,
or are you only performing the answer others expect from you?

Thank you.
